Right or Left? How about Both?

In my work I hear two things at opposite ends of the spectrum, one is "I don't have a creative bone in my body!" Most of you know how I feel about that but in case you don't I wrote extensively about that here. http://bit.ly/2BQc1m4

The other is, "I am a creative (or insert healer) and so I am not organized." Or "I am creative not technical." Or "systems and structure are too confining and too conformist." I have been hearing that more often lately as I work with more healers and creatives as students, peers, and clients.

I am here to say those are both stories you tell yourself, that can be shifted.

I don't mean you are making it up, I am sure that these stories came from external sources, parents, teachers, friends, bosses that just told you that you were good at the things that came naturally to you, and therefore you created a story that you were not good at the things that didn't come naturally. I get it. I fell in the "I don't have a creative bone in my body" category. Even though in my soul I always knew I was creative. But in my life I honed the skills that fed the analytical side of my mind, for a very long time, part of that story is because those skills make money and are marketable. But that discussion is for another time.

We also hear the story that you are either predominantly right (creative) or left (analytical) brained. That is another untrue story and research is delving deeper into that truth.

Your mind is fully capable of being both, sometimes it is a matter of releasing the stories and opening to being taught the skills.

For my healer and creative friends, especially if healing and creating is your business I invite you to consider that being more organized and having systems will actually give you more spaciousness and time to be creative. When you find ways to clear your mind of the to-do list of things you keep in your head, and write them down it actually frees you up for more creative thought instead of worrying about remembering mundane things. When you use technology and systems to streamline your work and communications processes you are spending more time in your creations than running the backend of your business.

I think of systems and organization as sacred technology, not as confining or conforming. They assist me in doing and bringing my work out into the world so I have more time be in service. I can spend my time coming up with creations and curriculum to better serve my beloveds. Systems, planning tools (even written) , and people to assist me are energetic containers, which harness energy so that it can be more powerful. Without them I would be in chaos and my energy would leak all over the place. Its like a raging river with no banks, which just becomes a flood of water everywhere that gets soaked up by the earth. Do you ever feel that way? Do you think having these things in place is time consuming, yet you never seem to have any time to create anyway? Are you willing to open up to getting some skills and technology so that you can focus on your heart and soul desires?

I am going to offer one challenge if you really loath organization. Just a little starting point. Do a "brain-dump" (You can google brain-dump printables) and list all the stuff, the to-do's, the wants, the needs, the toilet paper you are almost out of on paper. If you really want to feel like you are being creative use colored markers and make it pretty, or draw your brain dump list. When new things pop into your mind put it on the list. Carry your list everywhere. I do one list a month and add to it. I review the list to see if there are any things that are so irrelevant that they don't even need to be done AT ALL, or things I can delegate, and then use the ones that feed into my Vision and Heart and Soul Desires, and prioritize those each week. Doing this will free up the mind space for more creative thought and energy. Try it for a month, even a week and let me know how it goes.

I would love to hear your thoughts on being a creative and your relationship to systems and organization. And of course if there is any way I can help, or give direction.
