It's OK Not to Know
In this week between Christmas and New Year's I am seeing a lot of women feel as though they are in the in-between space, not really feeling like doing anything because they are decompressing from the holiday madness, and at the same time feeling BEHIND because they don't have all their visions and goals figured out by Jan 1st. and are guilting themselves for not doing anything. I have said this before and will keep saying it until I see my beloveds begin to relax and be gentle with themselves around the incessant push to do vision boards, goals, create calendars and planning for the next year by January 1.
Having everything figured out by January 1 is a man-made concept and a complete illusion.
Now don't get me wrong, I love visioning, I love strategizing, I love having structure and direction. It feeds me, and it is the container for my energy to be as powerful as possible. But I also love to honor my rhythms, align with the cycles of nature, deeply listen to what it is I actually desire, be fluid, be open to the mystery, and to receiving surprises. And to sometimes do absolutely nothing. And to sometimes NOT KNOW what is coming next. Because really none of us do, we can just enjoy the journey in the present moment. And if those things you do on a daily basis make you joyous and ecstatic, and fuel the vision, then truly that is all we can ask for. The more we release the idea that we control anything, the more present we can be.
So let's talk about your vision for a moment. 90% of the women I talk to, have a vision or create a vision board and more often than not it only addresses business vision, and it only represents a high level vision, not the activities and day to day living it takes to bring the vision into form. The rest of life is completely left out. Why is that? I know many of us love, love, love our work in the world, we are passionate about it, but it is still just a means to an end which is living a life we love and sharing our gifts with the world. Whether that means self-care, family time, recharging at the beach, writing the book, our physical and spiritual practice, or just being present, leaving those pieces out of our vision means we will feel incomplete at best; stressed, exhausted, and burnt out (no matter how much we love our work) at worst. And then we have nothing left to give to ourselves or anyone else. So please, when you are developing your vision, develop your life vision; the work is just a component of that, and the work is the day to day living that hopefully brings you pleasure, but is not the only thing that brings you pleasure.
"Your business vision is most powerful when it is developed in light of your personal vision. The reason so many people fail to follow through when things become difficult is due to this lack of connection to their personal lives." - 12 Week Year
So take your time creating your vision, there is no hurry, there is no need to complete it by January 1. In fact, I am generally still in visioning time until February 1st. And I don't create a brand spanking new vision every year. When you have created a life vision that is truly in resonance with what your heart and soul desires, then the vision doesn't change much. What does change from year to year can be how I want to feel, what I desire to do, how I desire to be, and what I desire to put my life force energy into, as well as, who I desire to connect with to keep living the dream, because the truth is I am already living it. All things that keep me focused on the present moment and the activities that fuel my soul, and that can effect the future vision, but my happiness doesn't rely on the future that I cannot control, it relies on what is happening now. So my council to you is to develop your vision from that point of view.
I also encourage you to not stop at the vision. Understand that the "vision" is just the high level bird's eye view of the best life you can live. Which is why I am not a huge vision board fan. Creating a vision board and looking at it every day can be a motivator, but it is not a manifestor, despite popular belief. I love starting with a collage or a creative vision plan painting because that gets me out of my left brain and opens the possibilities to creative ideas that otherwise would not happen without a creative practice. But the next step of understanding what is needed to bring the vision into form is crucial, and if you find that the actions you need to take to meet the vision are not in alignment with your heart and soul desires, then you may want to re-evaluate the vision. Because if you are not happy an in your joy doing the actions or reaching out for support, then again, what does the vision really mean? And where is it coming from? Has the vision been born from your soul? If so, than bringing it into form should be an extremely ecstatic experience on a nearly daily basis. And remember it is OK to change the vision, it is YOUR vision after all.
Also, I highly encourage you to look at your vision and your actions each month and check in to see if you are happy with where your life force energy is going and if that is where you want it to be going, and if not, adjust. And twice a year at the spring and fall Equinoxes I go through a whole Sacred Garden practice to see what seeds I have planted, what needs to be nourished, what needs to be let go, what needs to stay under the soil for a while..incubating, and what I have brought into blossom and can celebrate. These are very important to my cyclical process, and why I am not overwhelmed, feeling behind, or stressed at the end of year. Because I planted the seeds for December through February last spring and fall, and in some cases even back in 2017. Some things take time and patience and nourishment to cultivate and bring into form. Relax, not everything needs to be done right now or even this year. Just enjoy the journey.
I have a few gatherings in January for my local peeps to begin to live cyclically and relax into your life.
Year Beginning Illumination Circle - Where we get clarity on our heart and soul desires and create our mantra for the year from which the vision is seeded.
AND, I am super excited that my teacher Whitney Freya is coming and we will create our Sacred Symbol for 2019. There are only two spots left.
