Take Me to the Water- Part II
After coming to this realization I came across this passage in Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Voice of Knowledge and it resonated to my core. (This is paraphrased) “When you are in your creation and doing what you love to do, you become what you really are again. You are not thinking in the moment, you are expressing. When you are doing your best in your creation, your mind stops. You are alive again. Just expressing yourself leads you into ecstasy because you are creating. This is life as an art.”
WOW, for me nothing has been more powerful! In that moment I stopped beating myself up for doing so many different things…writing, dancing, painting, creating aromatics, bodywork, plant medicine, calling myself Jane of all trades, master of none, sometimes not finishing anything. But this is my creation, this is my art, this is what being in the flow looks like, this is love, and I do it without apology and without the need for perfection. I get down on my knees in gratitude that I get to do these things, to experiment and explore in this life.
So what does this have to do with water? Everything. As women we were given the gift of the ability to create, whether that is a human life, or our daily lives. Our wombs are water and out of the water comes our creations. Water is the flow, it is the ability to be with whatever life brings us, and consider all of it a creation. In acupuncture our energy system (the meridians) are compared to a river flowing, and when a boulder blocks the water our energies become stagnant but when we remove the boulders the water flows again, knowing exactly where to go to nourish us.
For someone like me who is full of passion and fire, I need the waters for balance so that I am not only taking fiery action but so I can be in the flow, go into the depths, get quiet and listen deeply. I need water, I love water, I am at my calmest and happiest when I am in the water, cooling the fire. As life would have it, I live in a dry, landlocked place so I need to take myself to the water at least once a year, or I feel like I will self-combust. I need to go into the womb to be nourished and cleansed by the mother.
Where do you need to go and what do you need to do to live in your creation? Do you spend time consciously creating? What can you do to actively bring more water into your life?
